Established/experienced Multi-instrumental Musician seeking to join and/or form garage rock band.

I want to focus on the styles of: garage rock, garage punk, rockabilly/psychobilly, blues, primitive, trash, surf, etc. I want to play stripped down, raw, dirty garage rock, swampy, foot-stomping rock anthems, etc. I'm also influenced by old rock & roll (1950's, 1960's), as well as old/classic country, Americana/old-American folk music (not that I necessarily see that factoring into a garage rock band too much...).

What I'd like to play -  Fun, rip-snortin', drinking songs driven by booze, women, heartache, disaster, conquering the world, life in general...

They can be slightly dark or serious, too; preferably not goofy. I'd like the music to be dynamic, too: It doesn't have to be full-on scorching for every song.

Ideal intent as a band: to write music, record, perform live shows, have fun, be a gang, conquer the local scene, etc.

I play guitar and sing (primarily; it's my main gig), but I also play bass guitar and drums. I'm open to assume pretty much any role in the band.

I’m an established and experienced musician that has, over the years, played in many different bands, many different styles, at venues all over the state, but I'm particularly well-established in the local AA/Ypsi scene (I started playing in clubs and venues when I was 15 years old). I don't think I'm a rock star, though. I'm very down to earth. I am just passionate about this kind of music and having this kind of band.

My record collection is very expansive: I’ve done my rock n’ roll homework, so to speak. My tastes are varied (everything from free jazz, trip hop, country, rock, you name it).

I have a home recording studio, too, as well as a practice space in my basement outfitted with all the gear we'd need. (nothing fancy, but gets the job done well)

I am good with band management issues, too (public relations, networking, flyering, dealing with bookers, soundguys, etc.), as well as web site construction/management, graphic design and poster/flyer design/production, CD packaging, etc. Hell, I was a professional soundman at a rock n' roll venue for five years, so I know what it's like to be on the other side of the fence, so to speak (dealing with rock stars and their bands, good or bad).

I don’t mean to brag (I’m actually quite humble, with a good attitude, and easy to work with; and most importantly I have the drive to totally rock out and have fun), but I want you to know I’m no dummy when it comes to rock, playing music, and everything it entails.

Ideally, I’d like to form a band of the following configuration: drums, guitar (one, maybe two), organ/keys (I really want this one), vocals (if all the musicians in the band could sing lead, or at least sing backups, or even just an occasional shout or something, that’d be really cool). Other instruments that’d be sweet: harmonica, baritone sax, Theremin, congas, tambourine, etc.

You get the picture…

If you have a band already, or are looking to form one, write for more details and be sure to tell me about yourself.

I require that you have the right attitude, competent at playing this kind of music, possess good music gear and are willing to bring it with you wherever we need to go, can rehearse two -four times per month, has reliable transportation, punctual, don't need to bum money all the time, etc.

In terms of a frontman/woman for the band -

When I think ideal frontman/woman , my mind sees some ideal in equal parts sound and ability of these personalities:

And, in a perfect world, it has to be a combination of the four essential elements of the ideal frontperson: singing ability/sound/tone, performance/stage presence/flare, firing up the crowd/fuck shit up/a little bit "crazy", and good people skills/personality.
Of course, a huge help would be the ability to write lyrics/collaborate on songs, and not be an idiot to work with.

These are some of the main bands that have influenced where I’d like to go musically in a band:

I’m also big into a lot of Michigan bands that hit it big with the Detroit garage rock revival:

White Stripes, Von Bondies, Bantam Rooster, Detroit Cobras, Hentchmen, the Screws, the Gories, the Sights, Blanche, Demolition Doll Rods, etc.

Other local bands I like: Mazinga, the Scars, the Rants, Dabenport, Scotty Karate, Awesome Color, etc.

Other bands I totally rock out to:

Other musical influences:

Some of my Favorite Record Labels: In The Red, Sympathy for the Record Industry, Fat Possum, Matador, Estrus, Crypt, Sub Pop, Yep Rock, Bloodshot, No Fun,, Revenant, Cass Records

If this sounds like something you'd like to pursue, contact me at: kk@kkipp.com

Note: I just gave you a ton of information about myself. If you contact me, I would really like to learn similar information about you.

FYI: I currently play in four different bands, but I'm looking to "go back to the drawing board" if I meet the right people and I finally get to play the face ripping rock that I've always wanted to.

Attention: Sleaze, scuzz, sluts, reprobates, dirtbags, troublemakers, abnormals, libertines, howlers, screamers, moaners, crooners, mooners, misfits, masters, mistresses, slaves, slatterns, singers, etc...

CLASSY music act needs singer (male or female) to destroy the scene with microphone voices and vocal sounds while we subnormal degenerates pound out caveman beats and retarded noises. Garage, noise, 50s/60s RnB, zydeco, spitting up blood, etc. We save almost all of our insanity for the stage; we have the attitude but not the ego. Relax, we have the perfect spot, downtown, very close to the bars and the liquor stores. Now we just need you.

We don't really care how wide-ranging is the music you listen to or how eclectic and cosmopolitan you are, because we understand little else apart from Rock and Roll. The most sensible way to relate the insensibility of our music & style would be to describe it as illegitimate, menacing/seductive cross-breed offspring of an orgy of material along these lines:

...take your time and explore these – we know you have nothing better to do...and then tell me, does it tickle your fancy? Talent is far more precious than experience, but when you reply (if you have any) do include your pics/songs/video/myspace from previous recordings/bands. We won’t hold inexperience against anyone who has talent/charisma. Or insanity.
